Escola Amadeu Correia

The Amadeu Correia School was founded on December 7, 1935, under the name Escola 1º de Dezembro. This designation was later changed to Amadeu Correia School, in honor of one of its promoters and co-founders. It is the oldest Portuguese school in the state of New Jersey.

Our Portuguese School was founded on December 1, 1935. At that time, the School Committee stated that “it is in school that character is shaped, at a formative and impressionable age, where horizons never before imagined are discovered, and where individuals are prepared to consciously face life’s difficulties and needs.” This was true 87 years ago and remains just as relevant today.

The parents of our students, through their attendance and punctuality, set an example of patriotism and sacrifice. After a full day of work, they bring their children to school to learn the language of their ancestors—something that will greatly benefit them in the future.

The Amadeu Correia School is located on the premises of the Portuguese Instructive Social Club (PISC), the organization to which it belongs.
