Escola Amadeu Correia
The Amadeu Correia School was founded on December 7, 1935, under the name Escola 1º de Dezembro. This designation was later changed to Amadeu Correia School, in honor of one of its promoters and co-founders. It is the oldest Portuguese school in the state of New Jersey.
A group of duly accredited teachers teaches grades 1 through 9. At the end of each school year, diplomas recognized by the Camões Institute and by the Portuguese Consulate are awarded to students who successfully complete their respective grade levels. Each year, the Amadeu Correia Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to the three best students in the 6th and 9th grades. Only children of members of the Portuguese Instructive Social Club may attend this school, and membership dues must be up to date at the time of enrollment. In the 2018/2019 academic year, the school’s director is Carla Rodrigues da Silva. The teaching staff consists of Carla da Silva (Pedagogical Director), Linda Pinho, and Teresa Valente.
The Amadeu Correia School is located on the premises of the Portuguese Instructive Social Club (PISC), the organization to which it belongs.
